We truly enjoyed our trip to Ecuador and Colombia thanks to the excellent arrangements made by Responsible travel. From the start, their representative Sebastian was attentive, engaged and helpful with every question or request we had. We were met at every airport by a driver or guide, making us feel comfortable. All the drivers were very helpful and courteous and the guides were very knowledgeable and considerate with history as well as current affairs of the place. There were 2 things that absolutely charmed us. The company arranged for us to plant a protected species plant- a wax palm that grows only in the cloud forest of the Cocora valley, thus compensating for our carbon footprint in a small way. The other surprise they had for us was when they arranged a couple of meals for us at very charming restaurants in both Ecuador and Colombia. We thoroughly enjoyed our trip with Responsible Travel and would certainly recommend it to our friends and family
If you want a travel experience that supports local communities while making you feel like family, Responsible Travel Latin America is the choice for you. As a solo traveler, I felt at home from day one. 1. Exceptional Personal Care - Valentina (the RTLA rep): She tailored my itinerary perfectly and checked in on me constantly, even on my "off" days. Her warmth made me feel safe and welcome in a new country. - Kim (Tour guide): An expert guide in Quito and Ecuador in general, who adjusted to my pace perfectly. Even on the way to the airport, she shared insights and enriched my experience right up to the last second of my trip. 2. Real Social & Eco-Impact I booked a trip to the Cuyabeno Nature Reserve with Responsible Travel Latin America. Booking with RTLA means your money stays in Ecuador. - Nicky Amazon Lodge: Ecuadorian-owned and run by locals. They work directly with the Siona indigenous community, helping them protect the reserve. - Sustainability: From adopting a tree in the Amazon to neutralize my carbon footprint to the lodge's eco-friendly practices (limited power/biodegradable products), the commitment to the planet is genuine. - Social Impact: supporting local initiatives, such as empowering women in vulnerable situations within communities. Bottom Line- RTLA offers a friend-like level of care that other agencies I've worked with simply can't match. I’ll definitely be using them again for my next Latin American adventure.
We had a fantastic experience working with Cynthia at Responsible Travel. She organized our 3-day, 2-night Cock of the Rock birding tour, along with additional hotel nights in Quito and airport pickup. Everything was seamless from start to finish. All the arrangements were clear and well coordinated, and every detail went exactly as planned. Cynthia was consistently communicative and responded quickly to all of our questions, which gave us great confidence throughout the process. We really appreciated her professionalism and efficiency, and wouldn’t hesitate to book through her again. Highly recommended.
The great thing about our trip is that we don’t have to plan for it, that we have a guide that is knowledgeable about the history of the place, that every thing about the trip is being taken care of including the flights.
I had a fantastic time at the Bella Vista Cloud Forest Birding. The location is beautiful and guides fantastic. The cafeteria offered wonderful meals including delicious vegetarian options. "Cock of the rock" was advertised and it was fabulous to see. We did have a few power outages which caused inconvenience for people in our shared cabin but the staff worked on it promptly each time. Cynthia Vela from Responsible Travel was extremely helpful with every aspect of our visit, answering all our questions and arranged timely transport. The Galápagos Islands was like visiting a zoo without cages. G adventures had a perfectly polished tour with an even better guide Zambo who made every aspect of our amazing trip unforgettable. The country of Ecuador was wonderful as are its people. I am looking forward to a return visit. I would happily use this company again and recommend it without hesitation.
We have just come back from an amazing trip put together by Alvaro. From start to finish the experience was fantastic. We were looked after so well, especially by Josselyn our agent whilst away, she really couldn’t do enough to help us, always at the end of the phone, or just checking in with us that everything was ok. Also big thank you to our guides Robert in Lima, Marco in Cusco, Christian and Francisco in Ecuador who also helped to make our time special. Every part of the holiday was great but the highlights were the Amazon and the Galapagos. We have made sine remarkable memories. I high recommend this company.
I and 3 friends travelled to Ecuador and the Galápagos Islands for 12 days. This trip was one of the best I have had thanks to Responsible Travel Our guides were fantastic.. friendly and knowledgeable. The trip was well organized and stress free. Hotel accommodations were superb. The whole trip flowed smoothly. I would highly recommend Responsible Travel
This is the second time I used this agency. First time for 2 weeks trip in Chile and this time for a week trip in Colombia, Cartagena, Santa Marta& Tayrona. I definitely plan on continuing to use their services. The staff is amazing, great communication at all times and all the guides went above and beyond. Reliable, great agency with personalized tours based on your needs.
The company's service and availability was excellent. Help with problems and solutions was excellent, they didn't leave until the problem was solved. Personal accompaniment. The guide was a bit strict and treated us as if we were children and this was on a general trip.
My issue is with the travel company. The Galapagos Islands and their people and wildlife are wonderful. But Travel Local and Responsible Travel (the Ecuador travel agency) made the travel experience horrendous. I’ve done group travel with other agencies, and this trip was the absolute worst from a travel perspective. The schedule every day was vague, chaotic and frustrating. Communication was poor. Our group leader spent 1-2 hours every day trying to get schedule details or resolving issues through Alvaro (Responsible Travel). Major planning/scheduling things regularly went wrong, starting with our plane tickets from Quito to the islands having our names wrong so didn’t match our passports. If not for the local guide (subcontracted by Alvaro) buying us new tickets, we would not have been able to travel with our group and would have missed the Darwin Research Center activities. Our names were wrong with hotels also. We were given wrong information about the Transit Control Cards and the local guide had to straighten that out as well. Everyday something went wrong – like a transport boat not receiving payment, so it wouldn’t leave the marina, and no bus showing up. There was no travel company guide with us. Instead there were national park rangers leading each activity, but no one to help with transportation and lodging issues. Hotels (hostel level accommodations) on Santa Cruz and San Cristobal were .5 to 1 mile from the docks/restaurants/shopping. After two long 13-hour days of non-stop activity, dinner was not included, so, exhausted, we had to find our own way to restaurants for dinner. Most days started at 5:30 am or 6 am which meant waking up and having breakfast even earlier. Multiple activities requiring different gear/clothing were scheduled in a day, so we had to schlepp all our gear all day. One time, after the day’s activities, there was no bus at the dock to take us back to the hotel and, tired and exhausted, we had to walk. Long days made us feel exhausted and angry. Then, on two days, we had to check out of the hotel, then sit in the lobby for 1.5 - 2 hours until we were picked up and taken to the dock for our transport. Daily descriptions were misleading. It made it sound as though there would be time to see Quito, but travel took the entire days both directions. Of the 10 days, 3 were entirely travel days (day 1, 9 and 10). We arrived early and paid extra for a day in Quito and specifically requested that we go to the museum on the tour. We were never told that the museums were closed (Monday) until we were there with the local guide who said we couldn’t do what we requested with Alvaro (Responsible Travel) well in advance. Very disappointing. So very many problems with this travel company.
Valentina did a terrific job in coordinating our travel to the Quito, the Galapagos, Cusco, Machu Pichu, and Tambopata. She was very attentive and was avaiable to answer questions we had. Accommodations were comfortable and situated in good locations, although one was not within walking distance of restaurants. The transfers were seamless and local guides very knowledgeable and friendly.
Our tour coordinator Valentina did a great job coordinating our trip to the Galapagos, Machu Pichu and the Amazon. The daily events and tours were informative and fun. The tour guides were exceptional especially the one we had in Machu Pichu. Love the accommodations especially in Santa Cruz and the Amazon. The tour company tailored the experiences to meet our needs. We wanted to snorkel a lot in the Galapagos and they made sure we did! Would definitely use them again!
We had an excellent manager. Valentina did a great job coordinating and attending to our needs in our Ecuador ( Quito and Galapagos) and Perú ( Cusco, Machu Pichu and Amazon) adventure. All of the local tour guides were excellent too!!
From start to finish Responsible travel was amazing. Alvaro and Jeferson planned a perfect trip to the Galápagos Islands for me and my family. The communication was fantastic during the planning of the trip. Once the trip started, our hand was held on each step/transfer. It made the whole vacation so easy. On top of it, Jeferson checked in on us via WhatsApp almost everyday. The customer service was top notch. If you want to plan a fantastic trip to Ecuador or the Galapagos, definitely ask for Alvaro and Jeferson. Trip of a lifetime! Thank you again!

Alvaro and his team were amazing in the planning process. He went back forth countless times with me and my family changing the itinerary until we were fully satisfied. He favored in every part of our needs throughout and made sure we were happy with the final plan. Once we started , I was worried we would be left hung to dry. But no. That’s where Jose took over and saw through day by day needs while we were here. We had a last minute change , and Jose quickly made that happen. I know we might have paid more through the travel team as opposed to if I had done it on my own, but the extra cost was a peace of mind knowing someone is here to help when needed
An Unforgettable Experience in Ecuador & the Galápagos Our vacation in Ecuador and the Galápagos was absolutely amazing. We completely fell in love with the country, its people, and especially the incredible animals of the Galápagos—everything was far beyond our expectations. We were lucky to have such wonderful guides. Francesco was much more than a guide; he truly wanted us to experience the real Ecuador. He introduced us to local food, took us to buy fresh fruits, and shared so many typical Ecuadorian dishes. By the end of the trip, he felt like a true friend. In the jungle, Miquel was an excellent guide. We give him huge credit for learning English by himself—his effort and dedication were impressive, and he made our time in the jungle even more special. We also really enjoyed spending time with Dave. His deep knowledge about Ecuador amazed us, and the hike (climbing) near Cotopaxi was, without a doubt, one of the best attractions of the entire trip. Cecilia was wonderful as well. She took great care of us during our transfers from the jungle to Quito and beyond, always making sure everything went smoothly. The Galápagos Islands were simply breathtaking. Seeing the animals up close was a once-in-a-lifetime experience and even more incredible than we had imagined. This trip gave us memories we will never forget. Ecuador and the Galápagos stole our hearts, and we cannot recommend this experience enough. The trip to North Seymour in the Galápagos was the best experience of our lives—seeing the wildlife so close was unforgettable.”
Maria at Responsible Travel was recommended by relatives who had recently visited Ecuador. She helped us book a trip that included a Galapagos cruise, Quito stay and tour, and Amazon Lodge. She was very patient and helpful as we evaluated various options, and incredibly responsive throughout. When we had a couple of glitches during the trip, she was right on top of it, including retrieving a wallet and some jewelry our daughter forgot on the cruise ship and having it delivered to us in Quito before we returned home. All the guides, the cruise ship and the lodge were great. Would 110% recommend.
